Empire Eve to Empire Ghyll

This page has been updated to include basic information about those that lost their lives. The data is by courtesy of the CWGC and I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as well as those lost at sea and recorded on the Tower Hill memorial. She was a 5,979 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 18 May 1943 by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-414 at position 36° 37’ N 00° 46’ E.

She was a 5,985 grt steam passenger/ cargo ship that was sunk on 9 July 1942 by a torpedo and gunfire from German submarine U-575 at position 11° 40’ N 60° 55’ W. Empire Explorer had been rebuilt from the damaged Inanda (see separate entry).
