Empire Steel to Empire Thunder

This page has been updated to include basic information about those that lost their lives. The data is by courtesy of the CWGC and I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as well as those lost at sea and recorded on the Tower Hill memorial. Empire Steel

She was a 8,138 grt motor tanker that was severely damaged on 24 March 1942 by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-123. She was later sunk by gunfire at position 37° 45’ N 63° 17’ W.

She was a 8,295 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. She was damaged on 26 February 1941 by bombs and gunfire from aircraft at a position 10 miles off Cromarty on a bearing of 080°.

She was a 2,865 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr McMullen was 4 September 1947. Please see the entry on the Queries and Omissions page under 'Omissions'. I have found no information about the cause of death of Mr. Irvine.
