Fort Binger to Fort Franklin

This page has been updated to include basic information about those that lost their lives. The data is by courtesy of the CWGC and I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as well as those lost at sea and recorded on the Tower Hill memorial. In most cases further family information about the individuals is available on the CWGC website - External Ref. #7.



Fort Binger

She was a 5,269 grt cargo ship that survived the war. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr Toba was 18 May 1942. Please see the entry for him on the Queries and Omissions page under 'Omissions'.

Fort Buckingham

She was a 7,122 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 20 Jan 1944 by two torpedoes fired by German submarine U-188 NW of the Maldive Islands at position 08° 19' N, 66° 40' E and sank within 10 minutes. The Master, 30 crew members and seven gunners were lost. She was sailing from Bombay Buenos Aires via Durban and was unescorted at the time. The ship's Master was Murdo MacLeod who had survived the sinking of Michael E in 1941 and served on Arctic convoys including PQ-18 in 1942 which was under continued attack. He had been awarded the D.S.C.

Fort Camosun

She was a 7,162 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. She was was damaged on 20 Jun 1942 by a torpedo and shellfire from Japanese submarine I-25 at position 47° 22' N, 125° 30' W but survived and was towed to safety. She was damaged again on 3 Dec 1943 by torpedoes fired by Japanese submarine I-27 at position 11° 23' N, 46° 03' E (off the gulf of Aden). According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr Boyeson was 23 September 1945. Please see the entry for him on the Queries and Omissions page under 'Omissions'. I have found no information about the cause of death of Mr. Thomson.
