Greenawn to Gretavale

This page has been updated to include basic information about those that lost their lives. The data is by courtesy of the CWGC and I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as well as those lost at sea and recorded on the Tower Hill memorial. Green Ranger

She was a 3,313 grt motor tanker that survived the war. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr Cochrane was 1 November 1942. Please see the entry for him on the Queries and Omissions page under 'Omissions'. I have not found any information about the cause of death of Mr. Taylor.

She was a 4,274 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 2 December 1941 by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-562 at a position 2 miles North of Punta Negri (Morocco). There were only two survivors.

She was a 1,277 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. On 29 March 1941 she was damaged by mines at Rotherhithe on the River Thames. She was temporarily repaired on the beach at North Woolwich.

Gretafield

She was a 10,191 grt steam tanker that was hit on 14 February 1940 by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-57 at position 58° 27' N, 02° 33’ W. The burning vessel drifted ashore at Dumbeath at position 58° 14' N, 03° 25’ W but broke in two and was declared a total loss.
