Harpagus to Har Zion

This page has been updated to include basic information about those that lost their lives. The data is by courtesy of the CWGC and I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as well as those lost at sea and recorded on the Tower Hill memorial. Harpagus

She was a 5,173 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 20 May 1941 by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-109. She had dropped back in the convoy to pick up survivors from Norman Monarch and was regaining her position when struck. She sank at position 56° 47’ N 40° 55’ W .

She was a 4,678 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. She was severely damaged on 11 September 1940 by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-28 at position 55° 34' N, 15° 56’ W. She was towed to the Clyde, beached at Kilchattan Bay and later rebuilt as Empire Stour.
