Iddesleigh to Indier

Iddesleigh

She was a 5,205 grt steam cargo ship that was damaged on 10 August 1944 by a torpedo fired by an E-boat. She was towed away and beached off Langrune. On 17 August 1944, whilst still aground South of #90 Buoy, she was torpedoed again by a one-man assault submarine and was declared a total loss.

She was a 1,583 grt compound-engined cargo ship that was sunk on 15 October 1941 by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-553 at position 53° 34’ N 29° 57’ W.

She was a 5,548 grt steam cargo ship that was damaged on 17 March 1942 by a torpedo fired by German submaine U-68 and sunk by gunfire at position 04° 04’ N 08° 04’ W.

She was an 815 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 1 September 1942 by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-125 at an approximate position of 05° N 01° W.

She was a 2,844 grt steam cargo ship that was damaged by a mine on 20 June 1941 on the West side of Hartlepool Approach Channel but repaired. On 7 October 1942 she was hit by a torpedo fired by an E-Boat at position 53° 06’ N 01° 25’ E and sank whilst under tow at position 52° 49’ N 01° 39’ E.

She was an 8,022 grt motor tanker that survived the war. However on 11 February 1940 she was torpedoed and damaged by a torpedo fired by German submarine U-53 at an approximate position of 59° N 12° W, and on 25 March 1942 she was hit by two torpedoes from U-94 at position 46° 26’ N 41° 30’ W. Initially abandoned, she was re-boarded and towed to St Johns for repair. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of both Mr Edwards and Mr Williams was 11 February 1940

She was a 4,573 grt steam cargo ship that survived the war. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr McHoult was 30 December 1944. Please see the entry for him on the Errors and Omissions page under 'Omissions'.

She was a 5,985 grt steam Passenger/ cargo ship that sank on 7 September 1940 after being bombed by aircraft whilst in the London Docks. She was recovered, repaired and renamed Empire Explorer (see separate entry for her final fate).

She was a 9.977 grt motor tanker that was sunk on 11 September 1943 by German raider Michel at an approximate position of 20° S 115° W.

She was a 5,192 grt steam cargo ship that was sunk on 3 April 1941 by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-73 at position 58° 13’ N 27° 36’ W.
