John Holt

There were two ships of this name that were sunk by German submarines during the war. One was a 4,975 grt cargo ship sunk on 24 September 1941, and the other a 4,964 grt cargo ship sunk on 5 March 1944. According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr Hime was 6 May 1944 and that of Mr Ball was 2 May 1943. It is possible that Mr Hime was a casualty of the 1944 sinking but I do not have enough information to comment further at this stage. Information on how Mr Ball lost his life can be found on the Errors and Omissions page under 'Errors'.
