At present the website is arranged just as the Allens had organised their data and unfortunately they did not have the resources available to us today to ensure that it is accurate and complete. Eventually I am to expand and correct the data but as there are over 5,000 photos this is far from an easy task and I do not currently have time for it.
As a result, finding out whether the collection has a photograph of a particular ship was quite difficult with the first version of the website as a particular ship could be filed under the company name (e.g. Court Line), the type of vessel (e.g. Tug) or simply under the first letter of its name. To help you find photos I have added a search tool as part of the upgrade of the site completed in 2011.
The Site Search tool is located at the bottom of the menu at the left of each page of the website and harnesses Google.
The search tool contains a pull-down list from which you can pick two types of search:
