This page includes my grandfather's postcards from Auckland, New Zealand.
The postcards were both printed in Germany and have the notation Copyright S. Hildersheimer & Co. Ltd. London and Manchester.
The unused postcard below shows Queen Street in Auckland with a tram, some kind of cart and many pedestrians. There is a large telegraph pole with many wires to the left outside the (New?) Zealandia Oyster Saloon. There was something unnatural about the colours so I wondered whether this was a colourised black and white photograph. I was correct and found the original image which is shown below the postcard.
The unused postcard below shows Auckland Wharf and appears to be another colourised monochrome image - though I have been unable to track down the original in this case, and it is possible that it was based on a painting rather than a photograph. The two vessels at the wharf are sailing ships - the one on the left has its bowsprit clearly visible. A number of horse-drawn vehicles can be seen on the wharf and the hats on the two people in the foreground look like additions.
