Auchencrag was a 3,908 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1903 by Russell & Co. for Auchen Steam Sailing Co. Ltd. and managed by Purdie, Glen & Miller. She was sunk on 12 January 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-84 at position 48° 28' N, 05° 35' W - approximately 20 nautical miles West of Ushant. She was en route from La Plata to Cherbourg with a cargo of wheat.

She was sunk on 24 August 1918 by a torpedo fired by German submarine UC-59 approximately 5 nautical miles East by South of the Farne Islands en route from Hartelepool to Moss with a cargo of coal.

She was en route from Rouen to the Tyne in ballast.

Aurania

Aurania was a 13,936 GRT steam passenger ship completed in 1917 by Swan, Hunter & W.Richardson for Cunard Steamship Co. Ltd. She was fitted out as a troopship and was deployed for moving troops and supplies from the USA to Europe. She was struck by a torpedo from German submarine UB-67 on 4 February 1918 at position 56° 36' N, 06° 20' W - approximately 15 miles North-West of Inistrahull - which resulted in the loss of life recorded on the memorial. She was later stranded near Tobermory on the Isle of Mull where she broke up.

She was sunk on 23 August 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-27 at position 38° 08' N, 11° 10' E - approximately 40 nautical miles West-North-West of Maritimo Island. She was en route from Karachi to Bizerta with a cargo of wheat and onions.
