She was sunk on 11 March 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-53 at position 51° 51' N, 07° 41' W - approximately 4 nautical miles East-South-East of Ram Head. She was en route from New York to Avonmouth with a general cargo.

She was en route from Alexandria to Marseille but was not carrying troops at the time. Of the complement of 314, 12 lost their lives and the survivors were rescued by Hospital Ship Dover Castle.

Franz Fischer was a 953 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1881 by Irvine & Co. for Hardy Wilson & Co. as Rocklands. From 1913 she was owned by F.W.Fischer, renamed Franz Fischer and managed by Everett & Newbigin. Early reference, including Hocking - [35] - state that she was sunk by bombs dropped from a Zeppelin airship but this has now been discounted. The current view is that she was sunk on 1 February 1916 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-17 approximately 2 nautical miles South of the Kentish Knock light vessel. She was en route from Hartlepool to Cowes with a cargo of coal.

Fremona

Fremona was a 2,922 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1887 by Gourlay Bros. & Co. for W.Thomson & Sons. By the time of her loss she was owned by Cairn Line of Steamships Ltd. and managed by Cairns, Noble & Co. She was sunk on 31 July 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-47 at position 48° 55' N, 04° 11' W - approximately 10 nautical miles North by West of the Ile de Batz. She was en route from Montreal to Saint Nazaire and Leith with a cargo of grain, flour and lumber.
