In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

Glynymel

Glynymel was a 1,345 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1890 by Strand Slipway Co. for Mallorquina de Palma as Balear. From 1913 she was owned by Harries Bros & Co. She was attacked by gunfire from German submarine UC-66 at position 50° 12' N, 01° 11' W - approximately 23 nautical miles South by West of St. Catherine's Point. She was abandoned by the crew and scuttled by the submarine. She was en route from Havre to Swansea in ballast.

Goathland was a 3,044 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1906 by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for Christopher Marwood of Whitby. From 1915 she was owned by Headlam & Rowland. She was sunk on 4 July 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-84 at position 47° 11' N, 03° 08' W - approximately 6 nautical miles South-South-East of Pointe du Skeul, Belle Ile. She was en route from St.Nazaire to the Gulf of Mexico in ballast.

Golconda was a 5,874 GRT steam passenger/cargo ship completed in 1887 by W. Doxford & Sons for British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. She sank on 3 June 1916 after striking a mine laid by German submarine UC-3 at position 52° 09' N, 01° 45' E - approximately 5 nautical miles South-East by East of Alderburgh. She was en route from the Tees and London to Calcutta with a general cargo.

Gorsemore

Gorsemore was a 3,079 GRT steam cargo shp completed in 1899 by Richardson, Duck & Co. for W.Johnston & Co. and managed by Furness, Withy & Co. Ltd. She was attacked on two occasions:

  • On 26 June 1917 she was damaged by gunfire from German submarine U-62 at the entrance to the English Channel. One seaman lost his life on this occasion
  • On 22 September 1918 she was sunk by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-53 at position 38° 28' N, 17° 51' E - approximately 44 nautical miles South-East of East of Cape Colonne Taranto. She was en route from Barry to Taranto with a cargo of coal. There was no loss of life on this occasion.

The ship is incorrectly named Gorsemoor on the memorial.

She was sunk on 14 March 1917 by torpedo fired by German merchant raider Möwe approximately 930 nautical miles West by South of Fastnet. She was en route from Liverpool to an unknown destination in ballast.

Gower Coast

Gower Coast was a 804 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1899 by Dundee Shipbuilders Co. Ltd. for J.Bacon as Prestonian. From 1914 she was owned by Powell, Bacon & Hough Lines Ltd. She was reported as missing after sailing from Boulogne on 4 April 1917. She was en route from Tyne and Boulougne to Tréport with a cargo of coal. She is believed to have struck a mine laid by German submarine UC-71 of Le Tréport.
