Losses in WW1

Guildhall was a 2,609 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1898 by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for J.E.Guthe & Co. She was sunk on 25 June 1917 y torpedo fired by German submarine U-62 approximately 40 nautical miles South-West by West of Bishop Rock. She was en route from Valencia to Cardiff with a cargo of ore and oranges.

H.M.W. was a 75 GRT spritsail sailing barge completed by an unknown builder in Sittingbourne for Samuel West Ltd. She sank on 10 November 1916 after striking a mine laid by German submarine UC-18 approximately 1 nautical mile North by West of the Boulogne light vessel. She was en route from London to Boulogne with a cargo of crucibles.

Hackensack was a 4,060 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1904 by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for Stag Line Ltd. as Stephanotis. From 1916 she was owned by Hackensack Steamship Co. Ltd. and managed by Brown, Jenkinson & Co. She was sunk on 25 April 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-82 at position 51° 40' N, 10° 00' W - approximately 180 nautical miles North-West by North of Fastnet. She was en route from Cienfuegos via Halifax to Queenstown with a cargo of sugar.

Haileybury was a 2,888 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1902 by W. Pickersgill & Sons for Austin Friares Steam Shipping Co. Ltd. From 1916 she was owned by Wm.Thomas & Sons (Timber Importers) Ltd. and managed by J.E. Fisher & Co. She was sunk on 22 February 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-91 approximately 15 nautical miles South-East by East from The Maidens. She was en route from Glasgow to Nantes with a cargo of coal.

Halberdier was a 1,049 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1915 by Ropner & Sons Ltd. for Fisher, Renwick Manchester-London Steamers Ltd. She was sunk on 6 January 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-61 approximately 27 nautical miles West by North of Bardsey Island, St. George Channel. She was en route from Manchester to London with a general cargo.

Halcyon (Grimsby) was a 190 GRT steam trawler completed in 1898 by Cochrane & Cooper Ltd. for Cleethorpes Steam Trawling Co. Ltd. She sank on 19 February 1917 after striking a mine laid by German submarine U-71 off the Butt of Lewis.

Halcyon (Yarmouth) was a 141 GRT steam trawler completed in 1893 by Mackie & Thomson for The Great Grimsby Ice Co. Ltd. She had been requisitioned for Admiraly service but returned to fishing at the end of the war. At the time of her loss whe was owned by John T. C. Salmon and registered in Great Yarmouth as YH113. She was last sighted on 30 July 1919 in the North Sea and is assumed to have sunk after striking a mine.

Halifax was a 1,738 GRT steam passenger/cargo ship completed in 1888 by London & Glasgow Engineering & Iron Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for Canadian Atlantic Steamship Co. She was reported missing after sailing from St. Michael's in the Azores on 11 December 1917 bound for Bordeaux with a general cargo.

Hanley was a 3,331 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1902 by J. L. Thompson & Sons Ltd. for Walter Thomas Steamship Co. Ltd. From 1912 she was owned by Lewis Steamship Co. Ltd. and managed by T.Lewis. She was sunk on 30 May 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-87 at position 29° 23' N, 08° 43' W - approximately 95 nautical miles West of Bishop Rock. She was en route from Bahia Blanca to Falmouth with a cargo of oats.

Hanna Larsen was a 1,547 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1903 by Flensburger Schiffbau Ges. for Chinesische Kustenfahrt Ges. From 1914 she was requisitioned by the UK Government and managed by Everett & Newbigin. She was sunk on 8 February 1917 by gunfire from German submarine UC-39 at position 53° 42' N, 00° 39' E - approximately 20 nautical miles East by North of Spurn Point. She wsa en route from London to the Tyne in ballast.
