In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

Kingstonian

Kingstonian was a 6,564 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1901 by Hawthorn, Leslie & Co. for Frederick Leyland & Co. Ltd. She was attacked on two occastions:

  • 11 April 1918: She was damaged by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-68 at position 39° 20' N, 07° 10' E - Caleforte Bay - and was beached there. She was en route from Alexandria to Marseilles with troops and equipment. One seaman died in this attack.
  • 29 April 1918: She was torpedoed again and sunk by UB-48 whilst under repair in Carloforte Roadstead. A further seaman died in this attack.

Kintuck was a 4,447 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1895 by Workman, Clark & Co. Ltd. for China Mutual Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. and managed by A. Holt & Co. She sank on 2 December 1917. It is not clear from references available to me whether this was from a mine or a torpedo. The loss is reported to have occurred approximately 8 nautical miles North-West by North of Godrevy lighthouse. She was en route from London to Barry Roads in ballast.

She sank on 21 December 1915 after striking a mine laid by German submarine UC-7 approximately 2.75 nautical miles East by South of Orfordneww. She had been en route from Blyth to Sheerness with a cargo of coal.

She was sunk on 12 June 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-103 at position 50° 00' N, 05° 46' W - approximately 3.5 nautical miles North-East by North of Wolf Rock. She was en route from Swansea to Rouen with a cargo of coal.
