This page includes basic information about the ships and how they were lost, a photo of the relevant panel(s) of the Tower Hill Memorial and information about those that lost their lives extracted from the CWGC database. In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

According to Charles Hocking [35]:
The Union Castle liner Leasowe Castle was built to the order of Greek owners as the Vasilissa Sophia but never delivered to them. She was taken over by the British Government in 1917. Soon after going into service she was torpedoed off Gibraltar on April 20th 1917 but managed to reach port and effect repairs. On May 27th 1918 she was in convoy from Egypt to Marseille when she was torpedoed and sunk 104 miles W by N of Alexandria. On this occasion she was carrying 3,000 troops and was under command of Capt. E. J. Holl. Ninety-two persons including the captain were killed.

Leinster
Leinster was a 2,632 GRT steam passenger ship completed in 1897 by Laird Bros. for City of Dublin Steam Packet Company. She was sunk on 10 October 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-123 at position 53° 19' N, 05° 47' W - approximately 7 nautical miles East-South-East of the Kish light vessel. She was en route from Dublin to Holyhead carrying passengers.
According to Charles Hocking [35]:
The steamship Leinster maintained the Irish-English service of her company throughout the four years of the First World War. On the morning of October 10th 1918 she left Kingstown for Holyhead with 680 passengers and crew under command of Capt. W. Birch. When only a few hours out she was torpedoed by a German submarine and sank with the loss of 480 lives. Two torpedoes struck the ship, the first exploding near the bow where 22 Post Office officials were engaged in sorting the mail. Of these 21 were killed instantly. The second torpedo penetrated her engine room and killed and injured many persons. Capt. Birch had an eye blown out by splinters from the explosion and his leg smashed; he was pulled into a boat but was drowned when it capsized later.
The weather was bad with a very heavy sea, nevertheless an attempt was made to take the steamship in tow while an S.O.S. was sent out. In response to this a destroyer came on the scene in time to rescue 33 persons but too late to assist the Leinster which had foundered in the meantime.
At the time of the attack, many passengers were lying in their berths owing to the rough sea, and there was much confusion when they rushed on deck. Several of the boats were got out too hurriedly and capsized.
Note: The Memorial records the death of Mr. Bunday, a Production Inspector from the Devonport dockyard, and Josephine Carr, a WRNS Clerk. It is presumed that both were being carried as passengers. As far as I am aware, Josephine Carr is the only female recorded on the memorial. I have some doubt about the accuracy of information about Mr. T Williams. There were two people of that name killed on 10 October 1918. A "T.Williams" is listed as serving on Leinster and his details are recorded in the table below. The Memorial seems to show a "T.P.B. Williams" but this person served in HMS Colleen according to the CWGC database. HMS Colleen appears to have been used as some kind of base or administration unit at this time rather than a fighting ship making it even more mysterious.
