This page includes basic information about the ships and how they were lost, a photo of the relevant panel(s) of the Tower Hill Memorial and information about those that lost their lives extracted from the CWGC database. In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

Marina

Marina was a 5,204 GRT steam cargo ship (ref) completed in 1900 by Furness, Withy & Co. Ltd. for Donaldson Line Ltd. and managed by Donaldson Bros. Ltd. She was sunk on 28 October 1916 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-55 approximately 30 nautical miles West of Fastnet. She was en route from Glasgow to Baltimore.

According to Charles Hocking [35]:

...... There was little time for saving life and the boats got away with scarcely any provisions, one party having only a few biscuits and a little bully beef between them. This boat was picked up 30 hours later. Of those on board the Marina, 51 were Americans, of whom 6 were drowned. The captain and chief engineer were the last to leave the vessel and both were drowned in jumping for a boat. Ten others also lost their lives.
