In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

Red Tail

Red Tail was a 91 GRT sailing vessel (schooner) completed in 1868 in Runcorn for William Rigby of Runcorn. By 1917 she was owned by William B. Cooper - also of Runcorn. I have been unable to locate any information about the loss in the standard reference sources but a post on the South West Martime History Society forum by a descendent of the ship's Master states that she was torpedoed off Dieppe whilst en route from Glasgow to Dieppe with a cargo of coal.

Redesmere

Redesmere was a 2,123 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1911 by Sunderland Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. for Bromport Steamship Co. Ltd. and managed by H. R. Greenhalgh. She was sunk on 28 October 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-40 approximately 6 nautical miles West-South-West of St. Catherine's Point. She was en route from Barry to Southampton with a cargo of coal.

Refugio

Refugio was a 2,642 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1905 by R. Thompson & Sons for Orders & Handford Steamship Co. Ltd. She was captured on 12 May 1917 and then sunk by gunfire from German submarine U-57 at position 55° 10' N, 11° 35' W - approximately 115 nautical miles North-West by West of Tory Island. She wase en route from Ardrossan to Huelva with a cargo of coal.

Reliance

Reliance was a 60 GRT wooden steam drifter completed in 1902 by Chambers & Colby for John Breach and registered at Lowestoft as LT.694. She was reported missing and it has been suggested that she was sank after striking a mine laid by German Submarine UC-14 near the Smith's Knoll Light Vessel.

Ren

Ren was a 996 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1903 by Fredrikstad Mekaniske Verksted A/S for Hansen Thorvald of Oslo - she was a Norwegian-flagged vessel. She was reported missing after leaving Rouen to the Tyne on 29 October 1917 in ballast as she was not seen again. It is presumed that she struck a mine. It is not clear why Mr. Ferguson was aboard a Norwegian vessel.

She was en route from Bilbao to Barrow with a cargo of iron ore.

She was sunk on 7 May 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-43 at position 35° 42' N, 22° 57' E - approximately 45 nautical miles South-South-East of Cape Matapan. She was en route from Hull to Mudros with a cargo of coal.
