I have been unable to identify a vessel named Sanda that was damaged on sunk on or around 2 October - the Date of Death recorded by the CWGC for Mr. McMurtrie - so am unable to shed any light on what happened to him.

Ltd., renamed Sandhurst, and managed by Watts, Watts & Co. Ltd. She was sunk on 6 May 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine UB-72 at position 54° 58' N, 05° 25' W - approximately 6 nautical miles North-West by West of Corsewall Point. She was en route from Bilbao to Ardrossan with a cargo of iron ore.

She was sunk on 28 December 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-19 at position 55° 36' N, 07° 38' W - approximately 30 nautical miles North by East of Main Head. She was en route from Manchester to Puerto Mexico in ballast.

She sank on 28 February 1915 (or 1 March) after striking a mine laid by German cruiser Kolberg off Filey. She was returning to her home port from Iceland.

She was damaged on 12 March 1918 by torpedo fired by German submarine UC-71 approximately 5.5 nautical miles North by East of Anvil Point. She was en route from London to the West Indies in ballast. After repair she had a long life for multiple owners and with multiple names. As Santa Paola she was scuttled as a blockship at Porti di Lido, Venice but was subsequently salvaged and broken up.
