This page includes basic information about the ships and how they were lost, a photo of the relevant panel(s) of the Tower Hill Memorial and information about those that lost their lives extracted from the CWGC database. In the table I have included information about those who served on the ships but who had a normal burial as this seems appropriate to me. In some cases further family information about the individuals may be available on the CWGC website [7].

I am grateful to Nigel Braybrooke for the following additional information based on Neil Maw's World War One Channel Wrecks [53].
Cargo: 190 tons coal from Cardiff to Caen
Position: 4 miles N of Cape Barfleur (49 47 00N; 01 15 00W)
Masters name:
Crew: 6
Walter Ulric was in company with the sailing vessel Conoid. After Conoid was sunk by a German submarine the surviving crew reported that they saw the submarine chase off after the Walter Ulric and gunfire was heard coming from her general direction. However, as darkness was falling at the time they were unable to see whether she was sunk or managed to give the submarine the slip. The Admiralty records stated that there was no knowledge of her whereabouts and concluded that it was most likely she was sunk by the submarine. She was posted as missing 29 March 1917.
