Daybreak
Daybreak was a 3,238 GRT steam cargo ship completed in 1911 by W. Gray & Co. Ltd. for J.Wood & Co. From 1915 she was owned by Scarisbrick Steamship Co. Ltd. and managed by Elvidge & Morgan. She was sunk on 24 December 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-87 approximately 1 nautical mile East of the South Rock light vessel, 5 nautical miles North-East of Ballyquintin Downs. She was en route from Huelva to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore.
Mr. Pepper is recorded as having lost his life on 8 November 1916. This may be the result of an incident not related to the sinking of the ship or be down to a transcription error.
