Merchant Navy Memorials at Tower Hill

WW2 Memorial

Introduction

Tower Hill is the location of three memorials to merchant seamen who lost their lives during two world wars and the Falklands War and is just across the road from the Tower of London. This is a personal tribute to the people and families of those that lost their lives and aims to help anyone researching their family history who is unable to visit the memorials in person.

I have included the history of the location, pages for each memorial with details about construction, the names of those commemorated and, in most cases, photographs of the individual memorial panels though, due to the design of the WW1 memorial, there are still a few gaps in coverage despite numerous visits to take better photographs of some of the more obscurely placed panels. The Content Overview page gives more information about what is available.

From the menu, you can also access a Contact and Feedback form to comment, report errors or ask a question, view the Visitors Book, or perform a search of the website. I am regularly contacted by people with additional information, and I add this as quickly as I can but it takes time.

You may also be interested in checking out the Maritime Foundation Memorial Book which is kept at the Church of All Hallows by the Tower. It records the names and circumstances of people lost at sea with no known grave and entry is open to all who have been lost from ships, inshore craft, offshore installations and from beaches.
